Read to Lead Million Words Read Challenge
Official Terms and Conditions
- DESCRIPTION: The Read to Lead Million Words Read Challenge (the “Challenge”) entry period begins on July 1, 2021 and ends on June 30, 2022 (“Entry Period”). By participating, each educator unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of Read to Lead whose decisions shall be final and legally binding in all respects.
- ELIGIBILITY: This Challenge is open to educators and their students who are invited by RTL to enter (“Participating Classrooms”).
- HOW TO ENTER: First, educators of Participating Classrooms register for the RTL product through rtl.classroominc.org/#/register. Registration requires just a few basic pieces of information, including an email address and a password. Educators and their students then participate in Read to Lead’s learning games, typically one game per week for several weeks. RTL’s learning games automatically count the words read through gameplay and display the words read on a statistics page, which educators and their students can access anytime to see whether they have reached the required words read from one of RTL’s tiers, e.g. 250,000 words read collectively as a class. RTL reserves the right to cancel or modify the Challenge if fraud or technical failures impact the integrity of the Challenge as determined by RTL, in its sole discretion, and to award the prizes based on eligible entries received prior to the cancellation.
- HOW TO WIN/ PRIZES:
- Any and all Participating Classrooms that achieve the applicable tiers to complete Challenge will receive free student prizes. Participating Classrooms will be tiered as ‘millionaires’ based on class size as set forth below:
- 175,000 words read for Participating Classrooms with 10 or fewer students
- 350,000 words read for Participating Classrooms with between 11 and 20 students
- 700,000 words read for Participating Classrooms with between 21-29 students
- 1,000,000 words read for Participating Classrooms of 30+ students
- To receive the student prizes, educators must complete a survey provided to them on the completion of the challenge. The prizes will be delivered to the educator at no cost to them.
- In addition to the student prizes, any and all Participating Classrooms will also qualify to receive a student celebration gift certificate, to be used exclusively for a MWR celebration, if the Participating Classroom (i) achieves the applicable tiers to complete the Challenge, (ii) the Participating Classroom’s educator executes an Educator Release & Contract, and agrees to share photos of the class celebration that takes place (either virtual or in-person) with RTL, and (iii) collects an executed Student Photo and Video Release from each student in the Participating Classroom within (1) one month of receiving the prizes. The monetary value of the gift certificate will be based on class size as set forth below:
- Participating Classrooms with 10 or fewer students will receive a $25 gift certificate
- Participating Classrooms with between 11 and 20 students will receive a $50 gift certificate
- Participating Classrooms with greater than 20 students will receive a $75 gift certificate.
- If an educator has more than 1 Participating Classroom, the maximum value of the gift certificate the educator is eligible to receive is $100. No gift certificate will exceed the monetary value of $100 per educator.
- PRIZE LIMITATIONS: No substitution or transfer of prizes or cash redemptions permitted, except at the sole discretion of RTL. RTL reserves the right to make equivalent substitutions as necessary. [If, despite reasonable efforts, any qualifying Participating Classrooms educator does not respond within five (5) days of the notification of the Participating Classroom’s eligibility for the prizes, the qualifying Participating Classrooms educator will forfeit his or her Participating Classroom’s opportunity to receive a prize. If the qualifying Participating Classrooms is found to be ineligible, or if there was non-compliance with these Official Rules, such qualifying Participating Classroom will be disqualified.
- DISQUALIFICATION: RTL reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Participating Classrooms or educator who is found to be tampering with the operation of the Challenge, to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Challenge, or to disparage, annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, andRTL reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: [RTL is not responsible for, and Participating Classroom hereby releases the RTL from any claims arising from: (i) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (ii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iii) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Challenge; (iv) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Challenge or the processing of entries; and (v) any injury or damage to persons or property, including but not limited to entrant’s computer, hardware or software, which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Challenge.
- DISPUTES: Except where prohibited, Participating Classrooms agree that: (i) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Challenge or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate federal or state court of the state of New York; (ii) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Challenge, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iii) unless otherwise prohibited, under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the Participating Classroom and RTL in connection with the Challenge shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the state of New York or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the state of New York.
